La llengua més poderosa intenta sempre engolir la més feble del territori. A PUERTO RICO, el castellà, “spanish”, està sotmès al mateix assetjament que el català a CATALUNYA; ells per part de l’anglès i nosaltres per part del castellà.
Resulta que el precandidat republicà Santorum, fent gala de la prepotència dels dominadors, s’encara a tota una multitud de portoriquenys per dir-los que si volen pertànyer de ple dret a la ciutadania nord-americana han d’adoptar l’anglès com a primera llengua. I la llengua pròpia del territori, l’espanyol, a prendre aire. Tenen un avantatge els protorriquenys: els deixen escollir. A nosaltres no. Espanya és segurament la nació més dominadora del planeta.
Les raons dels poderosos són les mateixes arreu. S’ha de complir la llei. Tothom ha de sotmetre’s a les mateixes regles de joc. Les lleis i les regles de joc que han establert ells, és clar. Ai, no, les lleis de “tots”. Tots ells! repetim nosaltres. “Like any other state, there has to be compliance with this and any other federal law” (Care2). Així s’ha expressat el precandidat republicà.
Diferència: el “pobrets” de Puerto Rico reben el suport dels disposats a plorar per totes les injustícies del món ” (Care2).
Nosaltres no mereixem el mateix tracte pel que sembla; som “rics”. Però ens ho manegarem com sigui per rebre el suport internacional. Això sí caldrà exposar les misèries d’Espanya. Sense manies, sense remordiments; el món funciona així, es posa al costat de la víctima i en contra del malgastador. Cap socialista ens farà sentir culpables per dir les veritats. Espanya ens roba! Espanya malbarata els nostres diners i els de la UE! AVEs no rendibles, aeroports inservibles, funcionaris en excés a Andalusia i Extremadura, altres regions espanyoles viuen millor i es fan rics amb els nostres diners, Espanya no ha retallat encara les despeses militars. Etc. Amb una Espanya així no hi ha qui pugui viure. Però per sobre de tot, som una nació i som els amos del nostre destí.
El que dèiem. El bilingüisme és impossible. Els que se senten més poderosos sempre voldran imposar la seva llengua i la seva identitat. Tot començant, com diu Santorum, el precandidat republicà, per fer-ne “la primera llengua, com manen les lleis federals”. Malgrat que l’anglès no sigui la llengua pròpia del país, de Puerto Rico.
Santorum Tells Puerto Ricans To Speak English
Republican crusader-in-chief and presidential hopeful Rick Santorum told a crowd of Puerto Ricans on Wednesday that their path to statehood is only possible if they make English their primary language.
No word yet on whether or not anyone has explained to Santorum that the Constitution says otherwise.
Puerto Rico currently recognizes both English and Spanish as their official languages, a position Santorum finds offensive. “Like any other state, there has to be compliance with this and any other federal law,” Santorum said. “And that is that English has to be the principal language. There are other states with more than one language such as Hawaii but to be a state of the United States, English has to be the principal language.”
The Constitution does not designate any official language and there is not a requirement that before a territory becomes a state it must adopt English as its primary language. Some states like Florida have passed laws declaring English the official state language, but before Puerto Rico becomes a state Congress would need to give its approval. Several English-only measures have been introduced but none has ever passed.
Santorum also said he doesn’t support allowing residents in territories like Puerto Rico to vote for President, another position I’m sure went over well with Puerto Ricans.
Santorum was in the U.S. territory as part of a campaign stop that included town hall meetings with residents. Puerto Rico holds its primary on Sunday and a later November referendum will decide whether the territory will pursue statehood or remain a self-governing U.S. commonwealth.
