La setmana passada vaig fer d’amfitrió al Parlament Europeu d’un grup d’entitats i persones representants de diferents organitzacions pro-drets LGBT de Catalunya i la resta de l’Estat. Vàrem fer balanç de la feina feta al Parlament Europeu els darrers anys i així mateix comentar, debatre i recollir propostes per tal d’encarar el final de legislatura i, eventualment, un nou mandat. Aquesta visita coincideix amb les activitats que hem organitzat per aquesta setmana relatives a la promoció d’Iguals drets per a famílies diverses’, pensades precisament per tal de posar de manifest com el fet de comptar amb diferents models familiars no ha de suposar, en cap cas, una pèrdua de drets fonamentals. Els cartells que enuncien les activitats compten amb fotografies de diferents models familiars (dos homes, dues dones, una dona amb fills, dos homes de diferents races i amb fills, dues dones d’edats i raça diferent, etc…). La importància de posar aquest assumpte a debat l’hem pogut constatar quan, en enviar les invitacions per les activitats que van tenir lloc ahir per la tarda, he rebut alguns mails de col.legues del Parlament (diputats) queixant-se i lamentant el ‘contingut’ de les fotografies, les quals consideraven ‘ofensives’ i demanaven que no els les enviéssim més. Val a dir que les fotografies mostren, simplement, persones que mostren el seu afecte mutu però en cap cas van més enllà d’una abraçada, un somriure o unes mans entrelligades. El fet que encara hi hagi qui consideri aquesta mena d’imatges ‘ofensives’ posa de manifest quanta feina queda encara per fer o, tanmateix, com és d’important que la gent que enviem a les institucions, com a mínim, tinguin assumits ja una paràmtres de ‘normalitat’ que van molt més enllà de la clàssica fórmula ‘pare, mare, filla, fill’. Així doncs, mentre hi hagi gent com aquests col.legues parlamentaris que considerin ‘ofensiu’ que dues persones que s’estimen puguin gaudir dels mateixos drets indiferentment del sexe de les persones en qüestió, caldrà seguir batallant. Presentació de la conferència:

To draw attention to the legal and social problems LGBT families and their children experience in Europe, ILGA-Europe in cooperation with the European Parliament’s LGBT Rights Intergroup and Hélèn Goudin, Member of the European Parliament, today launches an exhibition of 12 families posters at the European Parliament entitled “Different Families, Same Love”. The 12 posters highlight the challenges and issues LGBT families and their children face because of the lack of legal recognition, as well as the positive developments at European level advancing the legal situation for LGBT families and their children.

On the same day, ILGA-Europe launches a report “The Rights of Children Raised in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender Families: A European Perspective”. This report documents the existing framework of legal protection of the rights of children in LGBT families at European level, analyses the many gaps in their protection, and makes recommendations for addressing these. The report will be used to raise awareness more generally around this issue at European level.

Patricia Prendiville, Executive Director of ILGA-Europe, said:

“Today when the world marks International Human Rights Day, we must remember that in reality there are many adults and their children across Europe who are still denied the legal recognition of their families. Their relationships based on love and care are still not considered valuable or equally respected. Most shockingly, in many European countries, children in LGBT families are not able to establish a legal link with their factual parents and face discrimination on the grounds of their birth status or the sexual orientation/gender identity of their parents.

We hope that today’s exhibition at the European Parliament and our new report which specifically looks at the rights of children in LGBT families, will serve as yet another eye opener to European politicians and will encourage them to take a pro-active and strong stance toward the elimination of all forms of discrimination against LGBT families and their children”.
