El govern alemany s’oposa de fa temps a l’adopció
d’una nova Directiva Anti-discriminació. Aquesta directiva hauria de
contribuir a acaba amb l’exclusió i la discriminació de persones que l pateixen
a causa de la seva edat, orientació sexual, religió o discapacitat. L’adopció d’aquesta
Directiva Anti-Discriminació exigeix l’acord unànim dels 27 Estats membres.
Alemanya n’és el principal opositor. És urgent que Alemanya cessi d’obstruir el
procés per tal que la Directiva sigui finalment adoptada pel Consell.
És un tema que segueixo molt de prop donat que
en sóc el Ponent responsable per part del Parlament Europeu. Al Parlament
Europeu ja en vàrem adoptar, durant la passada legislatura, el nostre informe
que ara, en el marc de Lisboa, es considera Primera Lectura. Va ser un
equilibri delicat i complexe, però ambiciós. Ara estem esperant que el Consell
adopti el seu text per valorar-lo i decidir, novament, al Parlament Europeu, si
l’acceptem o no.
Hauríem volgut que pogués ser adoptada, la
Directiva, durant la Presidència espanyola. No podrà ser, però almenys l’hauríem
de deixar prou embastada.
En aquest sentit, Amnistia Internacional ha
iniciat una campanya cibernètica per enviar cartes al Ministre Alemany d’Igualtat
demanant-li que cessi en la seva oposició. Convido tothom a sumar-s’hi.

The German government is opposing the adoption
of a new European Union (EU) anti-discrimination directive. This directive
should contribute to end exclusion and discrimination that people suffer
because of their age, sexual orientation, religion or disability. The adoption
of this new anti-discrimination directive requires the agreement of all 27 EU
Member States. Germany should cease its opposition so that discrimination in
Europe can be effectively addressed.

Dear Ms Kristina Schröder,
I am writing you to express my deep concern
over discrimination in Europe. Across the EU people are discriminated against
on the grounds of their religion or belief, disability, age and sexual
orientation, and face barriers in accessing education, healthcare, housing and
other goods and services.
Discrimination is a complex phenomenon that
needs to be tackled at different levels. National governments are obliged to
respect, protect and fulfill the human right to non-discrimination. The
adoption of comprehensive and effective anti-discrimination legislation is
essential to fulfilling these obligations. Existing EU anti-discrimination law
has significantly improved anti-discrimination legislation at the national
level. However EU and national law in many of its member States still fails to
prohibit discrimination equally in all areas on all grounds.
The new EU Equality Directive as proposed by
the European Commission goes a long way to addressing these gaps. It would help
millions of people in Europe to enjoy their rights without discrimination, as
enshrined in EU Treaties and the EU Charter on Fundamental Rights.
Therefore, I ask your government to end its
opposition to the new Directive and play its part in ending discrimination in
Europe. If Germany keeps opposing the Directive, many people in Europe risk
being left without protection from discrimination for years to come. This would
run counter to Germany’s stated commitment to promoting equality for all.
