Explica l’expert circense Dominique Mauclair que els historiadors xinesos, en especial Fu Quifeng, situen l’acrobàcia com la primera expressió artística corporal, anterior a la dansa i el teatre. És fàcil deduir, doncs, que amb més de quatre mil anys d’història els xinesos siguin uns mestres en els salts mortals o els flics-flacs i els que tenen més autoritat per ensenyar-nos aquest meravellós i difícil art en què s’exalça la figura humana i sempre hi ha l’esperit de superació.

Amb molta disciplina, els artistes són entrenats a la Xina des de ben petits (a partir dels 6 anys) per aconseguir una acrobàcia que assoleix moltes vegades l’excel·lència. L’espectacle ZENsation, que va visitar Barcelona el 2003, era d’un alt nivell. Els millors números de Dralion, de Cirque du Soleil, que va visitar Barcelona dos anys més tard, el 2005, estaven protagonitzats per acròbates xinesos. L’acrobàcia a la Xina és tan poderosa que es calcula que hi ha 50.000 acròbates i unes 140 companyies oficials, la majoria amb una mitjana de 100 artistes.

Cirque du Ciel és una companyia nascuda el 1957 a la regió de Tianqiao que, amb ganes d’innovar i no quedar-se estancada, ha obtingut els últims anys un gran èxit amb el número Double poles climbing. L’espectacle que presenten aquest Nadal a Barcelona està ple de proeses circenses una rere l’altra acompanyades d’una potentíssima música de percussió que fa molt viu l’espectacle i el distingeix d’altres muntatges xinesos de música enllaunada. Hi ha tantes proeses que és difícil digerir-les totes de cop, però el nivell mitjà és notable i dos números sobresurten sobre la resta: la perxa xinesa, d’una gran intensitat i dificultat, i un pas de deux que acaba amb un equilibri inoblidable.
