Carter no tuvo exito.

At the end of his final term in office, U.S. President Barack Obama managed to carry out his revenge with the passing of an anti-Israel resolution at the U.N. Security Council. The resolution aims to limit Israel’s ability to deal with existing challenges in a region overtaken by madness, extremism and bloodshed. The man who could not make a connection between extremist Islam and terrorism, and who buried his head in the sand, helped pass a resolution that could encourage Palestinian terrorism under the auspices of the Security Council. The United States, which in 2001 suffered one of the most devastating terrorist attacks in history, is closing its eyes and abandoning its most loyal ally in the Middle East, if not in the entire world. This is what happens when bits of hatred and unchecked vindictiveness dictate the policy of what was once a superpower that championed the link between morality and politics.

The thunderous applause that followed the passing of this resolution was reminiscent of the jubilation that erupted at that same rotten institution with the passing of the resolution equating Zionism with racism. People are slaughtered every day in this world; unconventional weapons are being used; women are being raped; and the world is silent and paralyzed. Only Jews returning home after 2,000 years and rebuilding their historic homeland can manage to unite the nations of the world against them.

The leaders of the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel, along with well-known figures among the Israeli Left, are joining in this festival of hatred. Even some of those sitting in television studios over the weekend did not hide their joy over the anti-Israel resolution. There are moments when we expect even a minimal degree of patriotism. When will people understand that every millimeter of land transferred to the Palestinians will become a base for fighting against Israel, that they will make life difficult even on the pleasant evenings along the old port in Tel Aviv?

The time when Jews were forced to submit and make peace with the whims of tyrants has come and gone. The State of Israel is strong, and the majority of Israeli citizens are united around an undivided Jerusalem and the right of the Jewish people to settle the historic homeland. There is no force in the world, including unilateral resolutions, that can make the State of Israel fold and submit. When they try to torment us, we will multiply and break through — we will settle the Land of Israel and defend its security and strength.

The Security Council resolution was passed just before the Hanukkah holiday. How symbolic that we are again forced to stand up to modern empires. Just as we succeeded in the past, we will succeed again today. Happy Hanukkah, and may the people of Israel live on.

Ahir, a The Times of Israel: “Calling Obama administration ‘cowardly,’ Danny Danon releases book on UN tenure.

In December 2016, less than a month before US president Barack Obama left the White House, the UN passed Security Council Resolution 2334. The resolution blasted Israel for building West Bank and East Jerusalem settlements, which, according to the resolution, have “no legal validity” and are “a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-state solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.”

Washington stunned Israel by abstaining on the resolution, amid a nadir in ties between the countries under Obama and then-prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, allowing it to pass and drawing the ire of Israeli officials. Danny Danon was Israel’s ambassador at the UN when the vote was passed, a job he calls “the most intense and demanding position in the Israeli diplomatic world” in his new book, “In the Lion’s Den: Israel and the World,” released on Tuesday.

Danon tells the story of the infamous resolution from his perch at the UN, lambasting Obama and then-US secretary of state John Kerry for “working diligently behind the scenes to make the resolution and its passage a reality before they left office. “I had hoped [Obama’s] thinking would be stronger than his emotions, but it was not the case,” Danon writes. “He wanted to conclude his term with a UN resolution that would define the legacy of his Middle East policy.”
