Ahir em vaig comprar la versió de prova del World of Warcraft (només costava 1.95? al FNAC). Hi he jugat una mica, però no li acabo de trobar el què…I tanta gent que diuen que hi està enganxada…
Yesterday I bought the trial version of World of Warcraft (it only costed 1.95? in FNAC). I have played a bit, but so far I don’t think much of it…And they say that so many people are addicted to it…
…Or is it? It looks like it: the showcases of the stores, the street lights…The retailers do all they can to make us start the shopping as soon as possible! I don’t quite understand it: one would think that, no matter when you start the seasonal shopping, the amount of money you spend depends on the number of gifts you have to make and your budget, but not on when you start to shop. That is to say, if you start early you should be done early. But I suppose my reasoning is wrong, and that by putting lights on the street a lot of people will buy more things. People are weird. At any rate, since at home we’re one of the strange ones that only give presents for King’s Day (we’re probably just a few!) I have a few extra days to go shopping, and so I won’t start to worry about gifts until Christmas Day is over!
Just to make it clear: I like Christmas! I like to give and be given presents; I like family gatherings around a table (even if there isn’t always peace and harmony!); I like to eat neules and torrons; I like that my niece and nephews sing to the Tió and that they say the traditional Christmas poem; and to go and watch the Kings’ Cavalcade and Els Pastorets. But I find it annoying that for some people it has become a mere excuse in order to make money.

…O potser no? Ben bé ho sembla: els aparadors de les botigues, les llums del carrer…Els comerciants fan tot el que poden per fer-nos començar a comprar com més aviat millor! Jo no ho acabo d’entendre massa bé: semblaria normal de pensar que, independentment de quan comencis a comprar, la quantitat de diners que et gastis depèn del nombre de regals que hagis de fer i del teu presupost, però no pas de quan comencis a comprar. És a dir, que si comences abans també hauries d’acabar abans. Però segurament que el meu raonament és erroni, i que posant llums al carrer molta gent deu comprar més. Coses més estranyes s’han vist. En qualsevol cas, com que a casa meva som dels estranys que només fem regals per Reis (en devem quedar pocs, ja!) tinc uns dies extres per comprar, i per tant no penso començar a preocupar-me pels regals fins passat el dia de Nadal!
Que quedi clara una cosa: a mi m’agrada el Nadal! M’agrada fer regals i que m’en facin; m’agrada reunir-me amb la família al voltant d’una taula (encara que no sempre hi hagi pau i harmonia!); m’agrada menjar neules i torrons; m’agrada que els meus nebots facin cagar el Tió i diguin el vers de Nadal; i anar a veure la Cavalcada de Reis i els Pastorets. Però em molesta que per alguns s’hagi convertit en una simple excusa per fer diners. A aquest pas, potser haurem de cantar "El Vint-i-Cinc de Novembre, fum fum fum…"
