En un principi pensava que s'havia fet mirant la llengua definida al navegador, on la meitat dels catalanoparlants s'identifiquen com a castellanoparlants. Mirant amb una mica més d'atenció la documentació, però, sembla que s'ha fet amb un detector de llengua que mira els textos, i per tant el català no estaria condicionat pel supremacisme de l'espanyol en els navegadors (com solucionar-ho). Així que he agafat el mapa i l'he posat manualment al Google Earth. Per poder consultar-ho amb més detall, anant als puntets de color a veure quines poblacions són:

És un posicionament manual, no una exportació georeferenciada, així que pot haver-hi cert decalatge.

L'autor del mapa m'ha passat les coordenades exactes de les cantonades, i com que sembla tenir la projeccció adequada, la cosa quadra exactament.
Per cert, pregunta: quina és la zona amb un color diferent que no té un estat propi? ;-)

Some names are 'blurring' a few hot areas.
Andorra obfuscates part of Franco-Spanish border. I'd be interested to see if and where Catalan spreads over into Southern France. Or is it the same language as Occitan/Provençal [which isn't included in the map]? That would be consistent with the French habit of re-naming a neighbouring language, spoken on their territory, thus suggesting that it's merely a dialect of French (vid. 'alsacien' instead of 'allemand' 'flamand' in stead of 'néerlandais' and 'corse' instead of 'italien').
Apart from that I wonder why Catalan doesn't show up in Valencia province. The language that is spoken there looks and sounds very similar to Catalan, if it isn't exactly the same.
'Belgica' is blurring the border between Dutch and French, and Liechtenstein obliterates the German-speaking part of Italy (South Tyrol).
Anyhow, your ingenious overlay pattern is a most useful addition to Eric Fisher's work
