Aquesta esbaixada i quasi surrealista definició dels Manel no és meva, és de la plana web del The Great Escape, un festival indie que es celebra a Brighton els propers 14, 15 i 16 de maig. Una mena de Primavera Sound a l'anglesa, perquè ens entenguem: Hi caben propostes prou conegudes com The Charlatans, Evan Dando (però no tornaven els The Lemonheads?), Kasabian o Mistery Jets amb d'altres que ja fa un temps que ens sonen com Fanfarlo, Abe Vigoda, The Rumble Strips, The Veils, The Week that Was, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart o Ezra Bang & Hot Machine. Per completar el cartell, pràcticament 170 bandes a descobrir on els britànics trobaran als Manel presentant Els millors Professors Europeus (DiscMedi, 2008) entre elles. Això sí que no esperin que els de Barcelona toquin res de flamenc in their native language. Per cert, no són els únics catalans que viatjaran fins aquesta ciutat universitària, els acompanyen els Cuchillo.
En fi, que a Brighton enguany tindran un festival de tanta qualitat o més que el Primavera Sound, de fet repeteixen força noms (Vivian Girls, Crystal Antlers o els propis The Pains of Being Pure at Heart). L'única diferència és que allà si que escoltaran una banda en català, serà que la Generalitat els deu subvencionar.
