Aquesta setmana, en el plenari d'Estrasburg, he afegit la meva signatura a la crida Gaza War: and now?, a la qual ens estem afegint diputats i diputades de diferents parlaments:
GAZA WAR: AND NOW?

The undersigned Parliamentarians:
-considering the violations of international and humanitarian law by the Israeli authorities in the Palestinian territories, in particular the "collective punishment" represented by the blockade imposed on the population of Gaza; the multiplication of settlements in the West Bank; the construction of the "wall" on Palestinian territories; the arrest and detention of over 10 000 Palestinians, including children, in prison; the calling into question of the free movement of Palestinians on their territories; the annexation of East Jerusalem; the refusal of any solution to the problem of refugees...
-considering the war in Gaza, which will remain as the most murderous operation ever carried out by Israel in the Palestinian territories:
a. causing hundreds of deaths among the civil population, including a very large number of children;
b. leaving - according to European Commissioner Louis Michel - over 500 000 people without access to drinking water;
c. leading Israeli soldiers to commit extremely serious acts such as non-assistance to the wounded - according to the Red Cross; firing on schools, hospitals, press centres, UN convoys responsible for delivering humanitarian assistance as well as the headquarters of the United Nations Agency for relief to refugees; the use of phosphorus bombs;
d. exposing, due to the bombings and according to the World Bank, 10 000 people to the risk of the collapse of sewerage systems and, therefore, of drowning in waste water..
-asks all European Union governments to come out in favour of initiating the sanctions provided for in the European Union-Israel Association Agreement (on the basis of article 2 of this Agreement which demands the respect of human rights, by all contracting parties) as well as the freezing of the process of "upgrading" relations of cooperation for as long as this country does not comply with international as well as humanitarian law or that it does not accept the resumption of peace negotiations with the Palestinians on the basis of the relevant United Nations resolutions.
